Starr loves fiddling! She was introduced to fiddling in 1987 and she has played ever since. She has judged fiddle contests and won fiddle championships in at least seven different states including the National Senior Fiddle Championship. Starr is proud of her fiddle students, many of whom have won state and national contests and continued their music studies at colleges including Portland State University, the Berklee School of Music, and the Manhattan School of Music. She is founder and Chair of the Willamette Valley Fiddle Contest in Corvallis, Oregon which has been running for 21 years. Now that she has retired from her position as Professor of Economics at Oregon State University, Starr has more time to travel and participate in fiddle jams and contests around the country. She is honored to serve as a judge at the Colorado Fiddle Championships at the National Western Stock Show—one of her favorite annual events!
